I have been talking and warning about toxic chemicals in our everyday life that would lead to serious disease. Searching for convenience has its own side effect. Instant noodles and premade frozen meals are loaded with preservatives and unpronounceable chemicals. Faster data service, 5G has basically put you into a microwave. Frappuccino cups to takeout food containers are destroying the ocean.
However, many people still believe or prefer to choose convenience. The other day my husband told me the story of his friend’s bird. The bird, Q was killed by the toxic smoke from a burning Teflon pan. Yet, there are still people who use Teflon pans because of its convenience. So, I just want to share some new research about a link between toxic chemicals and Celiac Disease.
Celiac disease has long since been considered a relatively rare disease. In the 1990’s, celiac disease in the United States was still considered extremely rare and almost non-existent, but the number of people who are diagnosed with celiac disease has increased to 1 in every 133 Americans and 1 in 100 worldwide. Celiac Disease Foundation claims that Celiac disease is a serious autoimmune disease that occurs in genetically predisposed people where the ingestion of gluten leads to damage in the small intestine. How genetic plays role on this rapid increase?
So this past May, the NYU Langone research team reported in the journal, Environmental Research online that children and young adults with high blood levels of certain toxic chemicals were twice as likely to be newly diagnosed with celiac disease as those without high levels.
The findings are:
1) Female subjects with high levels of the pesticide chemicals dichlorodiphenyldichlorethylenes (DDEs) in their systems were up to eight times more likely to have the condition.
2) Women with high levels of perflouoroalkyls (PFAs) were five to nine times more likely to have celiac. PFAs are chemicals used for non-stick surfaces such as Teflon.
3) Men with high levels of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) had double the chances of having celiac. PDBEs are used to make fire-resistant products.
All those chemicals are developed to make human’s work easier and we have been exposed to those chemicals almost everyday. As long as you eat out and consume mostly non organic foods, the pesticide stays in your system. PFAs are used not only in non-stick cookware but also food packaging, such as microwave popcorn bags, fast food wrappers, stain-resistant carpets, rugs, and furniture. So food, air, and even drinking water have become contaminated globally as a result of manufacturing releases and use of PFAS-containing products. PBDEs, or polybrominated diphenyl ethers, are industrial toxic flame retardant chemicals used in consumer electronics, furniture, and mattresses. PBDEs are no longer produced in the U.S. but are still present in many items in our homes and elsewhere.
Celiac disease is not just digestive issue. Celiac disease does significant damage to your small intestine, flattening the villi and inflaming the mucosa. When the villi get damaged, nutrients cannot be absorbed properly into the body. Obviously, if you can not absorb important nutrients, different kinds of symptoms will appear such as, becoming anemic, losing bone mass, depression, neurological disorders, skin rashes. If you don’t pay attention to your body and leave celiac disease untreated, your body will collapse and lead to serious complications.
So, before purchasing any products, please pay attention to what it is made of. Unfortunately non-toxic products are not so economical, but it is going to be a great investment when it comes to your health and your families’. It is priceless.
