As information regarding the truth behind the COVID-19 pandemic continues to emerge, Dr. David Morens, a former senior advisor to Dr. Fauci, was indicted last month on suspicion of concealing records related to the origins of the novel coronavirus. And this month, the public testimony of James E. Erdman III, a current senior CIA operative, has been making headlines. He has a 20-year career with the CIA and served as the lead investigator on the COVID-19 origins investigation for the “Director’s Initiatives Group (DIG),” a special task force established by the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) to investigate the origins of COVID-19, from March 2025 to April 2026. Senator Rand Paul stated that while the CIA did not pre-approve his testimony, he decided that “government secrets should not shield the government from accountability” and took the stand to testify publicly despite facing “significant personal risk.”
Here is a summary of Mr. Erdman’s key testimony, which has been making headlines.
- The theory of a lab leak had been repeatedly concluded internally
According to Mr. Erdman’s testimony, CIA scientific analysts concluded on multiple occasions between 2021 and 2023 that “a laboratory leak is the most likely origin of COVID-19.” However, that conclusion was not reflected in the official position and was not reported to Congress. Eldman testified, “Among the documents circulated among multiple agencies within the intelligence community, there was an analysis stating that all the conditions for a leak were in place.”
- Dr. Fauci intentionally manipulated the intelligence community’s conclusions
“Dr. Fauci’s involvement in the cover-up was intentional,” Mr. Erdman testified. Between 2020 and 2021, at a time when the CIA was already seriously considering the lab leak theory, Dr. Fauci met on multiple occasions with interagency investigators from the CIA, the FBI, and other intelligence agencies. When investigators asked Fauci for expert opinions, he provided a “curated list of experts.” The scientists on that list were individuals involved in gain-of-function research, and Fauci went on to introduce these stakeholders to the interagency investigation by the intelligence community. As a result, parties with a vested interest in undermining the lab leak theory gained influence over the investigation.
- We have the fingerprints, but we still don’t have the “smoking gun.”
Erdman stated, “No documents have been found to date in which Dr. Fauci or other officials explicitly discussed a cover-up (the so-called ‘smoking gun’), but there was a pervasive undercurrent suggesting a cover-up in many of the documents I reviewed.”
- The Biden Administration’s “Cleanup Efforts”
Congressman Paul described the Biden administration’s actions in its final days as a “clean-up operation.” He pointed out, “They had the CIA issue its final assessment not because new information had emerged, but to create a fait accompli before the transition of power.”
- The cover-up of documents continues to this day
Mr. Erdman testified, “Secretary Gabbard is trying to handle this responsibly, but the ODNI has still not received all the documents it requested from the CIA and the State Department’s intelligence division.” He stated that the State Department’s intelligence division had relied on assessments by scientists close to Dr. Fauci.
It is important to note here that Erdman himself acknowledges that there is “no smoking gun” yet. While the testimony is significant, it does not constitute a definitive conclusion. It is interesting that Liz Lyons, a CIA spokesperson, said in a May 13 post on X, “The Committee acted in bad faith by subpoenaing an Agency officer for testimony today without notifying CIA, despite having already obtained closed-door testimony from the individual previously. The witness testifying today is not appearing as a whistleblower in pursuit of the truth, but instead in response to the subpoena issued by Chairman Paul. This proceeding amounts to nothing more than dishonest political theater masquerading as a congressional hearing. As the CIA has already assessed, COVID-19 most likely originated from a lab leak, and efforts to undermine that conclusion are disingenuous.” Does that mean we can’t trust the current CIA either, like what Erdman said?
And the final straw for me was, without a doubt, the fact that not a single Democratic senator attended the hearing. People are making a big fuss about the Epstein documents, but isn’t it the duty of politicians—regardless of party affiliation—to uncover the truth and hold those responsible to account for what was happening behind the scenes of that pandemic, which claimed hundreds of thousands of lives and devastated the economy?
